Early exhibition of American Art at the Musee National D'Art Moderne in Paris 16 January - 15 February 1959. Organised by MoMA's international council. An important introduction for the French to Pollock's work, only 3 years after his death. Text 'Jackson Pollock' by Sam Hunter. Catalogue of 58 works, some illustrated in b/w. Second text 'La Nouvelle Peinture Americaine' by Alfred H. Barr. Artists include: William Baziotes, James Brooks, Sam Francis, Arshile Gorky, Adolph Gottlieb, Philip Guston, Grace Hartigan, Franz Kline, Willem De Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, Theodoros Stamos, Clyfford Still, Bradley Walker Tomlin and Jack Tworkov. Some 81 works were exhibited, full details on each work with ownership in 1959 stated. Interesting section 'Opinions' where each artist made a statement or selected a text he/she wanted included in the catalogue. An important early archival show. Vg, in paper covers with tape on bottom section of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. Rare archival reference source. This item is accompanied by the catalogue for the same show which toured to Berlin, same show but all texts in German.
