Published to accompany an exhibition April 21 - August 12th - this is the first study to be devoted to the work of the Black Mountain Photographer Hazel Larsen. She arrived at Black Mountain College in 1944 as a polio survivor in a wheelchair to find a host of artists in many disciplines who would later become world famous. Not only do her photographs inspire awe for their insight and beauty, the provide an invaluable record of a time and a place that changed our culture. A good reference source with extensive essays by Connie Bostic, David Vaughan, Erika Zarow and appro 44 full page b/w images by Larsen, many early portraits of those famous artists.
