ARTIST MULTIPLE produced as a part of the exhibition 'Cieli ad alta quota' an exclusive presentation by the Museum In progress for Austrian Airlines, curated by Hans Ulrich OBRIST. One of the most exciting projects by an artist working with the theme of free unrestricted circulation of art to the public. As Obrist says " Boettti told me he was bored by the art world, because he was always being invited to do the same kind of project. The narrow boundaries made him feel claustrophobic. He had a long list of unrealised projects, and said it would be interesting to look at these and make them happen. What was his favourite unrealised project? He wanted to do an exhibition of jigsaw puzzles of all the aeorplanes of the world - a truly planetary exhibition. It took us five years but by 1991, with the Museum in Progres, we started to do these small jigsaw puzzles to be distributed all over the world on Austrian Airlines planes." These 6 puzzles were distributed to all children travelling on the planes and taken to a multitude of international destinations.

In the Museum in Progress works, the artists or authors, are part of a production circuit, and they give up some control over the works. The apt example of 'No-Man's Land' theme, Boetti created these puzzles to be freely distributed by the airlines on board, so that passengers might 'playfully interact' with the art in an 'exhibition in the sky'. The viewer is waiting to land at a new destination while putting these puzzles together, which, in turn, represents airplanes in transit. The artist explained that the spectator was meant to playfully interact 'on a horizontal plane (the tray table) while simultaneously looking out of the window of the airplane to achieve a 'feeeling of eternity' in which he is in the midst of an ossillation between the particular and the universal. This is the first set that 20th Century Art Archives has ever had in stock - a complete set is hard to find. This set has the 6 puzzles in unbroken plastic wrap and
housed in the original card case. A completely wonderful item.
