ONE OF A COLLECTION OF 18 BOOKS WHICH HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED BY THE ARTIST TAUBA AUERBACH UNDER HER OWN IMPRINT DIAGONAL PRESS WHICH SHE ESTABLISHED IN 2013 AS SHE STATES SHE FOUNDED THE PRESS :

TO MAKE ART IN THE FORM OF PUBLICATIONS

TO PUBLISH REFERENCE MATERIAL THAT SUPPORT EXHIBITIONS, EXPERIMENTS AND OTHER PEOPLE.

TO DEVISE A BUSINESS STRUCTURE IN WHICH THEPUBLICATIONS ARE AFFORDABLE ADN THEIR VALUE DETERMINED BY WHAT ONE MIGHT GET OUT OF OWNING THEM RATHER THAN FROM RESELLING THEM.

TO EXPLOIT THE PHYSICAL POSSIBILITIES OF CONSUMER LEVEL PRINTING AND BINDING PROCESSES, SUCH AS COMB BINDING, COILBINDING, PHOTOCOPYING AND RUBBER STAMPING, AND TO USE THESE TECHNOLOGIES IN INVENTIVE WAYS.

TO EXECUTE PRODUCTION IN-HOUSE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

TO OPERATE WITH AUTOMONYAND INTEGRITY.

TO AVOID CONFUSING INTEGRITY WITH RIGIDITY.

TO PARTICIPATE MEANINGFULLY IN THE PRESENT AND NECESSARY PSYCHIC SHIFT.

Her publications are in open editions and nothing signed or numbered. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an important group of her early books from the press which delivers the depth and scope of these books which follow through on these statements.

Auerbach writes:

THE GOLD Church is made up of photos taken at The Basilica San Paolo Fuori Le Mura in Rome. The building has a gold-leafed exterior wall that shines brightly in the sun. The windows - a gift from the King of Egypt after a fire int he church in 1823 - are made of alabaster. From the inside, they glow in gold and yellow tones.

"Chiral Fret Typeface" was created for this book. It forms the letters using units of the classic meander fret ornament as building blocks on a 4 x 3 grid, with rotation at the top and bottom center units. This fretwork is ubiquitous in the basilica, in Rome, and the world over"
