Catalogue of an exhibition on Belgium's premier master James Ensor organised by the Arts Council of Great Britain (it must have been one of their earliest exhibitions) and held under the auspices of the Tate Gallery at the National Gallery. 18pp, 9 b/w plates, including b/w frontispiece of Ensor in his studio (photography by R Anthony, Ostend). Introduction by Leo Van Puyvelde and detailed catalogue of 88 works with a small bibliography. This is the forerunner of the museum catalogue we see today establishing itself as a voice of authority on an artist and as a reference source.
